How Zevia Changed My Life: raving product review and GiVe-AwAy!

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED, BUT PLEASE READ ALL THE INSPIRING HEALTHY LIFE-CHANGE STORIES IN THE COMMENTS, AND TELL US YOUR STORY EVEN THOUGH THE CONTEST IS OVER! 10-22-12

I know. I know. That title sounds a little dramatic and over-the-top, but hear me out! First of all, it wasn’t the ONLY thing that changed my life, but it was one of the things that changed my life. In my old life, I used to love a certain soft drink, which shall remain nameless, but it has the letters D and P in it. In my twenties, I loved it way too much, having at least one or two every day. Then I got the news that my blood sugar levels were a little high, but that didn’t make me want to change anything (boy was I stupid!). Years went by, I had gestational diabetes which forced me to stop the soda (temporarily), I probably picked it back up after pregnancies were over, I can’t remember,  blah blah blah… and I reached my 40s at about 1-2 cans (sometimes more) per week. Improvement, but far from ideal health. Then the contest that changed everything. Of course those extra calories (not to mention health issues!) had to go during the fitness contest! But oh how I wanted that cold, sweet, fizzy goodness on the back of my parched throat! I didn’t realize how addicted I really was. I was having major withdrawal symptoms, and it was not fun, and there were few alternatives. And then I found Zevia, Dr. Zevia to be exact. That discovery changed everything. I could still satisfy that oh-so-powerful craving for the fizzy, but because it was sweetened with stevia, there were no calories and no insulin spikes! Perfect. Well, almost.  I had never been a fan of diet sodas, so I had to get used to the “diet flavor” first. But I did, and it became the perfect transition drink to get me “off” sugar sodas. For good. For real. Haven’t had one in well over a year now (cheers and applause here!). It enabled me to completely detox off soda, and for that I am forever grateful! No more unwanted empty calories, but more importantly, no sugar addiction and insulin spikes that my body could not handle, and that were causing a long list of problems for me.  I had no idea my issues really were health problems and warning signs. I thought those things were “normal”, until I detoxed off the sugar and grains, and realized all the problems I was NOT having any more! It was so eye-opening for me! Zevia was a game-changer for me, that beat an addiction I didn’t even know I had, and certainly didn’t understand! I know better now, and for all of these things I am very grateful! Zevia, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

When I met the wonderful Zevia people at Expo East this year, I actually got choked up trying to tell them how much I appreciated their product and what it had done for me. And I wanted to be able to share the opportunity for YOU to beat the sugar soda habit too! They generously offered TWO free 6 packs to the lucky winner of this, my FIRST give away! YAY!!! It’s a big day for Organic Eater! I asked them for two because I want you to be able to drink some and COOK WITH some. Yep, they have recipes at www.zevia.com, so you can cook sugar-free as well, and my next post will show you a fun Halloween-ish recipe I made! Your kids will love it! I hope to post the recipe by Saturday…

So, it’s my first give away, and you’re not going to have to “LIKE” anything.  I don’t want you to “like” my blog because of free stuff. I want you to like and follow my blog because you think there is helpful and encouraging information here! I’d LOVE for you to follow the blog, but I don’t want to make it a requirement to enter a giveaway. Here’s what we’re doing instead: leave a comment here on the blog (see comment “balloon/bubble” at top) telling us HOW Zevia has changed your life (or at least helped!) if you have already tried it, OR tell us how you may WANT/NEED to change your soda-life with Zevia. That’s it. Contest closes at midnight Monday, Oct 22, and I’ll pick my favorite answer on Tuesday! (It will likely be Tuesday evening before I announce the winner, since I just remembered I’m doing a demo at Whole Foods that day!)  Keep your answer brief, let’s say a 100 word MAX.  You are encouraged to follow this blog, follow OrganicEater on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram, but I’m not requiring it. I would also like to ask you to RETWEET, reblog, etc. this contest on all your social media platforms. If you tweet or Instagram, be sure to include @zevia and @organiceater, so we can see who’s tweeting it up! It’s important people realize they do have an alternative to sugar sodas, and I want to help spread the word! Thanks guys! I appreciate you all so much. Thanks for being a part of this first GiveAway ever on Organic Eater, and I look forward to hearing from you!! To leave a comment, look for the little  “bubble” at the top of this post.

Encouraging Health,

Organic Eater

Disclaimers: OrganicEater is not telling you to drink a Zevia every day of your life to be healthy. I’m telling you it can help reduce the sugar intake from sugar sodas you are currently drinking, and that is a great thing to do! If you drink diet sodas, I highly recommend changing from articificial sweeteners to this more naturally sweetened soda. This can be part of an overall #lowcrapdiet that I endorse, not a magic pill to make you healthy. If you need more reason to cut the sugar in your diet, please read here.  Zevia will be mailing coupons to the winner, so please check www.zevia.com to see if it’s available in your area. It is only open to US and Canadian residents.

    • Hi Amanda! If you don’t mind, could you do a quick copy and paste, or leave another comment/story here on the blog, then I will edit this out. I just want it to be all “official” when I send in the info to Zevia, and I also want to read your comment for myself!:) Thank you so much! ALSO, send me an email to organiceater@me.com with your mailing address so Zevia can mail a coupon for a free can to you! Everyone’s a winner in this give-away!! They generously agreed to send everyone a coupon! They enjoyed reading all these stories as much as I did! Yay Zevia!!! Thanks Amanda!

  1. I drank diet sodas like they were going out of style. Diet Coke was my favorite. My doctor had told me she didn’t want to see me die of pancreatic cancer like three of her other friends. Aspartame was eating away at my body but I was craving it constantly and couldn’t wean off. Then I found Zevia and my life CHANGED. I was able to have the “regular taste” of my sodas without the guilt! My weight has gone down because I get the “sugary taste” without the calories or aspartame harming my body. Absolutely love the sodas because I don’t taste a real difference. I will tell lots of friends. Thank you!

  2. I was a pre diabetic PCOS patient, with high blood pressure and 60 pounds overweight. I was also addicted to sugar sodas. I gave them up and felt like an alcoholic and wanted a cola every day for 6 months, no lie. I started working at an organic grocery store and found out about Zevia. It changed everything for me, or started it anyway. I have lost 45 pounds and have normal blood pressure now. The best part: I am not diabetic and am not even considered pre diabetic ANY MORE!!!!!!!! I love, love, love Zevia.

  3. We drank a lot of pop – too much. I switched to diet pop but found out artificial sweeteners were bad and switched back. What to do? Then I found Zevia. The perfect solution! I even emailed back and forth with the nice folks at Zevia.com to be sure I understood the ingredients (figured it was too good to be true). We no longer need to buy any other soda! THEN we found that drinking Zevia after a spicy meal would help with GERD and no longer take medication for that! (Not suggesting it will work for you but it worked for us.)

  4. I was a diet soda drinker for years. Several years ago I started suffering chronic migraines. I tried several over the counter pain relievers and nothing worked. I finally went to my doctor who prescribed Relpax, and told me to stop drinking the caffeinated soda. One day I was in our neighborhood health foods store, and saw Zevia. I grabbed a can of ginger ale and bought it. Ever since that day I have treated myself to a can or two a week. Love that I can drink this soda and not feel any ill effects! I also give the ginger ale to my hubby and tween daughter when they have an upset tummy! Loving Zevia! I can now have my soda again!

  5. It’s too long for your contest, but thats OK I’d rather just get the word out!

I was drinking 32 to 64 ounces of soda a day the majority of my 20s- I barely ate. I was living on empty soda calories. I felt sick, always tired. I knew it was bad-I eventually tried to eat healthier in other regards- consuming real food at all really- but since I didn’t cut back on soda I started gaining weight. I tell my husband with 100% belief in my heart that “Soda is the one addiction I’ll never be able to give up”. When I would try I’d have withdrawal headaches and feel terrible, my husband would say “Your wilting” because I’d get pale and just feel so horrible. I had terrible problems with my teeth, so many cavities despite brushing and flossing 2x a day- I was convinced I had bad teeth by genetics. Then I met Zevia- Dr. Zevia, same as you. It allowed me to wean off one addiction at a time- lose the sugar but not the caffeine so the withdrawal situation was more tolerable. I haven’t had a cavity since- my dentist actually said I was “kind of boring” at a checkup- I’m pretty sure this is the first time their eyes haven’t turned to dollar signs staring in my mouth. I dropped 10 lbs with basically no significant other changes & eventually my energy level started to recover and I started exercising, so now my body is in better shape than ever. And that addiction to sugar- gone. I feel so much healthier. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve tried to turn onto Zevia. And regular sodas- I can’t tell you how gross they taste to me now. They’re so thick, they leave a filmy sensation on my teeth. Yuck- if Zevia isn’t available and I’m at a restaurant it’s gotta be iced tea or water. I can’t drink that Pepsi or Dr. Pepper crap anymore- and the me of 5 years ago would not believe that sentence came from ME. I love Zevia. No joke.

  6. I used to drink lots of soda. I developed Candidaisis. A yeast overgrowth in my blood system, caught by my doctor. He placed me on a strict diet, veggies, grains, nuts. Absolutely no sugar. I drank lots of water. I found Stevia and began to drink Tea w/stevia.. that got old. One day at Sprouts store I came upon ZEVIA the only product I could find made with stevia.. tried it and loved it. I brought several flavors and took it everywhere… to movies, dinners, clubs and to my friends’ homes. I shared and now I am happy to say that I turned them on to Zevia so we all drink it and share info when and where it will be on sale. We love it!

  7. I am absolutely obsessed with Zevia. Growing up I never drank sugary pop my house always had diet which in the end can end up being just as bad! I would down about 4+ a day every day, it was my staple beverage. Cutting pop was such a hard thing for me, since its always been a big part of my life. After finding Zevia I almost had a panic attack of joy! I like being able to grab a semi healthy soda whenever the urge hits.

  8. Zevia is awesome — Root beer Zevia floats made with homemade ice cream (made with organic cream and xylitol) are INSANELY delicious! Reducing sugars helps stop inflammation in the body and we’ve recommended Zevia to our soda-loving patients at our chiropractic office.

  9. I have tried Zevia soda and it tastes great. It is a far better, and healthier option, for a soda drink than regular sugar-sweetened sodas are. You won’t have tooth decay, worry about elevated blood sugar levels, or weight gain, with this soda.

  10. Ginger ale is are favorite Zevia! Never knew about baking with it! Can’t wait to try it & add some chocolate & pecans. Thanks for sharing.

  11. I personally never had a problem with soda. But my most favorite cousin does. She drinks SEVERAL sodas a day and she suffers from recurring kidney stones and migraine headaches. I have told her so many times to kick the soda habit and she would find relief. However, it has seemed too difficult and I think these would be a great replacement to make the transition easier. Thanks for the information and suggestion!!

    • It is a great transition! Buy her a couple- personally, the Dr. Zevia and some of the fruit flavors (like Grape & Black Cherry) taste the best to me, the closest to the sugar sodas I grew up on. The cola I’ve come to like but it was an aquired taste instead of good right out of the gate and I’ve also heard that from people about the root beer- I liked that one right away, but others have told me they thought they could like it but it was a little “different”. Once she finds one she likes, in my personal experience amazon.com offers the best prices on zevia.

    • Tina, I want to help your favorite cousin get some free Zevia and see if it may change her life too!! She needs this, so YOU WIN!!! And thank you for Tweeting about this post too! Email me at organiceater@me.com with your mailing address for the TWO 6 Packs and if you make any of the recipes let us know! I was so moved by these life-change stories, I also asked Zevia to give a prize to EVERY person who wrote such wonderful comments! They generously agreed!! So, you’re all winners on Organic Eater!!! Woohoo!

      • Oh wow!! Thank you so very much! I really appreciate it and I know she will too! Thanks for all you do to encourage and support us all living a healthy lifestyle!
